N/R/S Race Cars?

Post by Jason Kuczynski »

Following Rob's post on the early Ford race cars, I've seen from Sweepstakes through the Ford Specials- but really nothing of an N/R/S as a true 'race car'.

Were there any?

Does anyone have one now that they have made?

Given the ramp up of production with those models it would be interesting to see if any were 'raced'.

Thanks!

I don't know the answer, but I did read your post! Just a guess, but I suspect that Ford's racing activities during the Model N era were centered around his six cylinder cars (999, Arrow). :)

I'd tend to agree with that. I was just curious if there are any N/R/S cars that are known to have been raced.

The 1909 NY to Seattle run is probably the earliest race a "T" was in, and I'd like to know if anyone knows if the earlier 'production' Fords other than the K may have played a part in Ford's racing history like those early T's.

Don't make me have to take this to Rob on the 'other' forum, guys. ;)

Happy Fording, even if it did snow here last night!

Didn't Rob post something about Henry Ford messing with the people around Detroit with may be the six cylinder NRS car not too long ago.

I can think of a couple of examples - one in the US and another in Australia. I think these were raced by individuals - not the Ford Motor Company. I think both were stripped down stock cars rather than purpose built race cars. There are photos of each but I can't find them just now. If anyone is interested I'll try to locate and post them.

Hi Jason

I found one - see below. I can't remember the source. The fenders appear to be model N.

Still looking for the other - stay tuned...

Found it:

From the Western Mail (Perth, Western Australia), Sat 27 Mar 1909 Page 36. Boulder is next to Kalgoorlie. About a half hour drive to the north east is Lake Perkolilli, where the "Red Dust Revival" races are held annually.

The car is a 1908 Model S roadster.
